ALFRED EDWARD BOWMAN 1864 -1901 Alfred was born in Deal, Kent, he was the son of Thomas Bowman and Emma Turner Redsull. In 1881 he is at the Barracks in Wrexham with his parents, he is assisting his father in the canteen. In April 1885 he married Mary Elizabeth Richards (born Liverpool c 1865) at St Giles, Wrexham. By 1891 he is a licenced victualler at the Tiger Inn, Beast Market, and has 3 children, Thomas Alfred Russell born 1886, Percy Edward born 1887 at Overton, and Emma Violet b 1890. By 1901 they are at 15 Hope Street Wrexham, and he is still a licenced victualler. This address is for the Nelson Arms, so he seems to have taken over after his father moved out. Daisy Ida born 1893, Harold born 1894 and Dorothy Caroline born 1897. Soon after the census was taken in April, Alfred died 8 May 1901, he was only 38. His daughter Emma (Emmie) Violet died on 17 February 1908, she was just 17. MARY ELIZABETH RICHARDS / BOWMAN/ MELLOR/ DAVIES 1864 – 1945 Mary Elizabeth Richards was the eldest daughter of the Thomas Richards and Harriet Wynne who were both from Wrexham, she was born late in 1863 in the West Derby district of Liverpool. The family had lived both in Birkenhead and Liverpool as two of their children were born there but by 1871 they have moved back to Wrexham as Thomas has a house and shop on Yorke Street, he is a master tailor. By 1881 Thomas has moved to 30 Regent Street and is now employing 5 men and 1 boy, so is doing well for himself. Mary Elizabeth is still at home. Her father died in 1883. In 1885 there was a marriage announcement in the Wrexham Advertiser. RICHARD – BOWMAN. June 10th. At the Parish Church. Wrexham, Alfred Edward Bowman, son of Thomas Bowman, late Welsh Fusiliers, to Mary Elizabeth Richards, eldest daughter of the late Thomas Richards, clothier, of Wrexham Alfred Edward died in 1901, he had been a publican. Mary married again twice, to Newton Mellor and lastly John Watkin Davies. Mary Elizabeth Davies died at Bron y dre, Wrexham in July 1945, she is buried in the same plot with her first and second husbands, Alfred and Newton.
