Thomas Clarke was the son of William Clarke and Charlotte; he was born in Hungerford Berkshire about 1817. The family were living in Bray, but by 1851 Thomas is a soldier in the Infantry Barracks at Windsor. His occupation was a labourer. Military Records show that Private Thomas Clarke 3rd Battalion Grenadier Guards fought at the Alma, Balaklava and the Inkerman battles in the Crimea in 1854. The three battles took place in less than 2 months. Alma - 20th September 1854 Balaklava - 25th October 1854 Inkerman - 5th November 1854 Thomas was given a pension and left the Army. There are very little details in the records. Thomas Clark. Thomas and his wife Caroline who was born in Middlesex, moved to Wrexham. He was a Chelsea pensioner and the lodge keeper at Plas Power Lodge, Bersham. The Fitzhugh`s of the Plas Power Estate also had another Crimean veteran and pensioner looking after one of the other lodges, they may have even fought alongside one another. They remained there until Thomas died on 3 December 1877, and Caroline stayed on and was still the lodge keeper at Mr. Fitzhugh’s Lodge, Caroline died in Bersham aged 73 in 1884 and was buried with Thomas on 16 January 1884.
